Common Components, Ready Labor
As we have said before, Kodiak Steel Homes^® kits are finished out inside by the same tradesmen with the same materials as any other house. Perhaps the biggest difference is the use of a screw gun instead of a nail gun. Steel stud walls are becoming increasingly common in residential construction, and the majority of commercial buildings are framed entirely of steel, so you should be able to find plenty of experienced subcontractors for your project.

Superior Materials
Your subs will find their jobs much easier than working with wood. The steel stud walls provide straight and level surfaces to attach the drywall sheets. The sheetrock won't crack or look wavy when it is installed, and the steel framing won't warp or settle and cause cracks later. All the steel studs have pre-cut holes for the plumbers and electricians to run their wire and pipe. Our 18-gauge exterior studs are not commonly available, so we supply rubber grommets designed to cover the holes and protect cables from any sharp edges.

Room for Insulation
The quantity and quality of available lumber has continued to decrease while the price keeps going up. In response, builders across the country have begun using 2 x 4 studs to frame exterior walls, leaving you less than four-inches depth to install insulation. Even homes built with light-gauge steel framing typically use a 3 ⁵/₈ inch stud on the outer walls. However, the 18-gauge steel studs we supply for the exterior walls of all Kodiak Steel Homes models are at least 6 inches deep, and a few models even have 8 inch studs on some walls. This gives you ample room for at least an R-19 insulation in your walls (in addition to our reflective foil insulation wrap and any other materials you may use on the outside of the wall).
